Book Release: Transcendent Waves

Lavender is the author of the critically acclaimed book Transcendent Waves: How Listening Shapes Our Creative Lives which outlines how listening can unlock moments of creative spark, self-awareness, and mindfulness in a work that is equal parts how-to guide and contemplative artist’s workbook. Published by Anthology Editions in 2020, the book is available in the U.S. and internationally as well as at MoMA (NYC), Tate Modern (London, UK) and Moderna Museet (Stockholm, Sweden), among other museums, book shops and retailers.

"Suarez dives deep into everything from the mechanics of sound and how it resonates within our physical bodies, to musings on how it evokes the “ever-present now” and opens up expansive doors within ourselves and beyond."

Why I Do What I Do.

Since I was a teenager, I’ve had a passion for the arts and music. As I grew up, I began to notice a recurring pattern among my fellow musicians and artists: many were struggling with mental health challenges like depression, anxiety, and a lack of stability in their lives. This sparked a strong desire to study counseling so that I could offer support and healing to my community and beyond.

After studying counseling and art therapy in college, I began studying the philosophy known as “Deep Listening,” with its founder Pauline Oliveros. Through this practice, I discovered a profound new way to connect with
the world and myself through listening. At the same time, I began studying sound healing with the founder of the Sound Healing Association, Jonathan Goldman. It became clear to me that music wasn’t just a form of expression—it could also serve as a deep transformative tool for emotional and mental well-being.

Today, my mission is to create a safe and welcoming space where people feel encouraged to explore their inner worlds without fear or judgment.
I guide them as they embark on deep, introspective journeys, helping
them reconnect with themselves while remaining grounded and supported.
I am incredibly grateful that hundreds of people from around the world
have trusted me to walk alongside them in this process of discovery for over ten years now, allowing me to offer insights and support as they work towards reaching their wellness and creativity goals.

Testimonials

"Such a gift to have healing sounds fill the
depths of my body and my creativity."

-Ana P.

I have had the pleasure of experiencing both in person group workshops as well as online private sessions with Lavender and both were amazing experiences.

I have had trouble sleeping lately, but after each online sound healing session I was able to drift off peacefully and sleep through the night. I felt just as impacted as I have at live events. I would recommend sound therapy with Lavender to anyone, but particularly for folks dealing with anxiety, stress or sleep issues."

- Sara W.

"Suarez has worked to dismantle gatekeeping within the wellness world by pushing
community access educational opportunities for sound healing. Her ongoing series of
sound baths in art institutions and museums across the country, has been the driving force.
Through electronic, digital, and acoustic instrumentation, and a wealth of sound bowls and tools, Suarez has created accessible and stimulating environments for the newly curious as
well as the seasoned sound healing enthusiast."

—Flaunt Magazine

"The sounds seem to move through me...no longer something I am listening to, but something I am a part of. For reasons I can't articulate, a scene begins to materialize in my mind's eye:
I picture myself looking regal in all-white knight's armor, making my way through an emerald-green forest. An entire cinematic world unfurls itself before me and sweeps me away.
So begins my first sound bath...I feel intuitively, that I'd accessed something of depth."

-Ximena Vengoechea in her book, Rest Easy: Discover Calm and Abundance Through the Radical Power of Rest.

Lavender is a brilliant artist and sound healing practitioner, as well as a wonderful person
to work with, whose uniquely creative and intuitive work in performance, sound healing
and writing has emanated in positive ways throughout our space...Lavender’s work is multi-faceted, generous and collaborative with the audience in a way that connects
people deeply with their experience and promotes mindfulness and presence through
the creative exploration of sound and listening.
